7 Things to Prepare for Ski Season | Discount Skis
Most of us probably didn’t get to travel to Mt. Hood or New Zealand for the summer and spend it skiing or boarding. Most of us are rusty and need to prepare ourselves before the first snow storm hits so we don’t get caught off guard, so here’s 7 things we can do to prepare ourselves for this upcoming ski season.
- Book Your Trip. If you’re from a part of the world that doesn’t have great skiing and you need to travel to go skiing, book your trip now. Many resorts have early bird specials that go on till the end of October or so. Booking a flight early can also save you some cash.
- Season Pass. You’ve saved up money all summer to buy a season pass. So if you are lucky enough to be close to a resort make sure you get a season pass. Like booking a trip, ski resorts have early specials that can save you hundreds of dollars on a ski pass if you buy early. So get with your friends decide where you’re going to ski this year and get a season pass ASAP.
- Gear check. Make sure you go into your garage and gather up all your equipment and make sure it’s still in working order and you’re not getting it out the day you want to go up skiing and find out you only have 1 pole, your bindings are messed up, or you can’t find your goggles (happened to me).
- Buy gear on Sale. Most shops and online dealers like Bluehouse skis have great pre-season deals, where you can get a good percentage off the original price. Check out factorydirectskis.com and look for some new sticks if yours are in poor shape. FactoryDirectSkis.com offers quality skis at discount ski prices and FREE SHIPPING – but don’t worry these are not cheap skis! They also carry poles if you are in need.
- Get in shape. We’ve spent a long summer working with a little less play than we would’ve liked. Getting up 30 minutes earlier to workout is an easy fix if we’ve been a little less active this off season than we are used to. Running, with some weight lifting will make the world of difference that first day skiing.
- Get excited! There are tons of new ski movies coming out to pump us up for the season. The fall is the best time go to the movie you’ve been youtubing for the past couple weeks. Go to the production companies website and find out what dates and times the movie will be at a venue near you.
- Go Tanning? We all know that chicks dig goggles lines. Get those goggles out brush off the dust and get to a tanning bed. Showing up the first day on the slopes with a goggle line will make you look totally rad!
How to Find The Right Quality Ski at Discount Ski or Cheap Ski Prices
Back in the day when your mom and dad wore bell bottom jeans, and neon colored jackets with Oakley blade sunglasses to hit the slopes, choosing the right skis was an easier choice to make with limited options. Retro Skis were all based on racing designs, and there were limited companies to choose from. These days, there are racing skis, all mountain skis, powder skis, rock skis, park skis, fat skis, kind of fat skis, and the list goes on. Finding the right ski can be a difficult, expensive process. So here are a few tips that can help you save some time and money.
There are a few factors that play into choosing your new pair of skis, height, weight and skier ability are the top three. Skis should when stood up vertical should stand between your shoulder and top of your head. You might enjoy a little wider ski as well which will help your balance on the slopes. Using the factorydirectskis.com ski finder can help you decide what ski would be right for you. The discount skis sold at factorydirectskis.com also makes it less nerve racking buying skis. The factory-direct discount prices are only possible since we cut out the middle-man, this allows us to provide high-quality skis and a cheap ski price.
What type of skiing do you enjoy? Powder? Moguls? Groomers? or all types of snow? Read reviews on skis, websites like factorydirectskis.com/discount-skis.html have review of what real customers have said about their skis. There are also a few categories of skis located on the website. Pick one you’re interested in and read what it’s all about. Bluehouse skis offer a variety of skis for all types of skiers. For the powder junkie I might recommend the Maven or the Maestro, or perhaps the Shoots. They are Big and Fat which will help you stay afloat on the fresh coat of powder that’s dumped at a mountain near you. If you’re an all mountain type skier then you might want to try the MR, the district or the LLC. They’re a narrower group of skis that will allow you to make some sharp turns and have fun all over the mountain no matter what type of snow you’re shredding.
Red White and BLUE-HOUSE!
Due to cold weather all the way into June, Summer was delayed by over 10 feet of snow that buried Utah’s mountains. There was so much snow that Snowbird Ski Resort was open till the 4th of July for all of those Patriotic Die-Hard skiers to celebrate a our country and favorite sport. News crews were standing by to capture this rare moment and even caught an interview with a Bluehouse skis fan wearing a speedo and his Bluehouse Maestro skis- SNOWBIRD KSL NEWS. This was the last hoorah! As Summers heat took over it took our minds off skiing for a brief few months but now as Fall’s cooler temperatures begin to show up we again turn our thought s and hearts towards skiing. Day dreams of waist deep powder, a bluebird day, or that perfect park session begin to sneak into our day as we work and study. Gear guides, ski movies and fall sales spark even more excitement as we purchase new gear anxiously waiting to try it out on the mountain.
This excitement has been building up inside me now for a few weeks. I know I need some new skis and so I hit up factorydirectskis.com to check it out. What I found surprised me, quality skis at an affordable price to a college student like me. I was too surprised at their customer satisfaction guarantee, and that sealed the deal. Im now a proud owner of some new Bluehouse skis, and now I’m even more excited for the 2011-2012 season to begin.
Two is Better than One! Bluehouse Skis go Flying.
Bluehouse Introduces 2 Speed-Fly Athletes from BluehouseSkis on Vimeo.
Other than some low hanging clouds and flat light, the day was looking pretty good. We met at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon at 7:30, at Alta by 8:00 and to the top of Hellgate by 9:00. I was on a photoshoot with the 2 newest members- Marshall Miller and Clayton Butler, of the Bluehouse Speed-Fly team. Speed-flying is a combination of paragliding and skydiving with skis on. Check out Clayton Butler rocking out on his Bluehouse Maestros 500 feet in the air! http://vimeo.com/18946027 .
I filmed their launch and they quickly disappeared into the clouds. Ninety seconds later they were back down to the road before I had properly put away my camera and geared up for my descent. New to the Hellgate area, I was unsure of whether or not my line skied out without mandatory air. I was told there was no mandatory air so I hit the record button on my GoPro camera and took off. About half-way down the upper mountain, I hit a rock and my Bluehouse District blew off my foot. I was never a fan of the Naxo but since I paid nothing for them, I can’t complain too much. When I picked up the ski, the entire toe piece was gone. I had already committed to the chute and other than a 45 min-1 hour boot pack, there was no other way down. To my surprise, there was indeed a mandatory air at the bottom of the chute- about a 15-20 foot icicle. I decided that some speed would be better than none guessing that rock and ice would be more likely to hang out directly under the cliff. I lined it up on one ski and cleared the rock. Was definitely a run to remember but I wish I’d had both skis. http://vimeo.com/18826712
I am proud to say that both of my Bluehouse Districts survived the run, which I cant say for my bindings. I am grateful for my high quality discount skis, but next time I’m flying down anyway!

ABOUT ME:
I was born and raised in the hills of Alberta, Canada. From a young age I knew skiing was for me. Through out grade school, it was all I wanted to do. Growing up with a hand full of small local ski hills, I spent many evenings ripping around. I could never get enough so I decided to become a weekend warrior and join the Jasper Freestyle Team. For years I competed in moguls at Provincial and National contests. In 1999 I finished high school early and moved out west to Whistler, BC where I delved into the art of ski bumming. Although ski bumming has never paid off financially it has created numerous adventuresome opportunities for me around the world;some of the highlights being traveling to Alaska, France, USA, and winning the 2008 IFSA Freeskiing World Tour. When I look back I realize that every season has had it’s own story and focus. Whether it was shredding the small hill back home, skiing pow with friends, challenging myself on the World Tour, shooting photos, filming, or just skiing endless lines in my backyard. It’s all been such an awesome journey.
Ski to live, live to ski!
I’m super stoked to be apart of the Bluehouse collective. Solid skis built for, and by skiers. The Bluhouse line has a ski for everyone, and at discount ski prices….something that’s been missing in the industry. What else could you ask for? GET SOME!
The Shoots are my go to ski; stiff, solid and durable. They hold on to everything I throw at them. Over the years I have been through many skis and these are by far the best skis I have ever had! “Shoots to kill”.
Thanks Bluehouse!
NEW DISCOUNT SKIS + LOTS OF SNOW = HAPPY SKIERS
The math works something like this: NEW SKIS + LOTS OF SNOW = HAPPY SKIERS. In the last couple months, Bluehouse has suited many skiers with new skis. In the last couple weeks, Utah has seen some serious snow. So lately Bluehouse customers have been more than willing to speak up about the experiences they’re having on the hill. Below are just some of the words spoken from the wide-spread stoke Bluehouse has created this season. BTW, I’ve included typos so as to portray the disorderly excitement caused by such extreme excitement:
Kevin C., UT – “The Mavens were magically at the bird yesterday!”
Colton T. R., Pullman, WA – “Wow…..bluehouse all i have to say is “wow” i skied my MR’s today and it was seriously a spiritual experience, i could go on and on about why they are awesome but wow mad props dont change anything about the ski (except maybe to the topsheet)”
Justin S., Park City – “Bluehouse equation for maximum enjoyment: Antics + jumps u jibs = awesome.”
Jorden T., Revelstoke – “Can’t say enough about my new maestro skis. Rode to day at Revelstoke Mountain Resort and it was a blast. Happy Holidays to all and especially the snow gods here in BC”
Tristan S., SLC – “Maestros…sooo good. Even in so-so snow. Can’t wait until Thursday…hello 4′ of powder!”
Andy L. – “Lovin my Antics.”
Todd K., Jackson Hole – “I love these skis, they fly like a runaway beer truck with a boken e-brake. Excellent compliment to my BH Maestro. The Maestro is a fun pow/storm day ski. The Shoots are for when ya wanna point & send it.”
Tyler A., SLC – “I had a spectacular day at Brighton. I absolutely love the new skis, and couldn’t be happier.”
Whoever and wherever you are, we hope you’re enjoying the holiday season with your Bluehouse skis. It’s worth mentioning here that Bluehouse and FactoryDirectSkis.com are happy to bring such happiness to the skiing public at wholesale ski prices. There’s something different about this formula. It really is a model based on helping skiers have a great experience at a discount rate. It’s nice to know that the best skis are now also the discount skis, cheap skis, affordable skis, however you want to call it.
Enjoy Bluehouse Skis!

Bluehouse’s Discount Skis Impress
Everywhere I ski, I get tons of comments and inquiries about my Bluehouse skis. Before working for Bluehouse, I skied Salomon, Rossignol and Volkl and nobody ever really cared what I thought about the skis. I imagine it’s the same with other small indy ski companies, people are very curious about what I think. People are especially curious about Bluehouse because of their discount ski prices. Skiers are skeptical that a company can bring a ski to the market at three to four hundred dollars and be comparable to the ski that they just paid $900 for. The mass of skiers are starting to understand that we’re selling our skis directly to them at the same price that other brands are selling their skis to the retail shops. They’re not cheaper. The method is simply more efficient.
I’m happy to hear that our customers are happy with their Bluehouse purchase. The reason I know this is because nearly every order that we fill goes to a customer who heard about us on the ski lift or in the tram line. People are stoked on the value of Bluehouse Skis. Never again will I pay full retail for a pair of skis, or many other products that can be purchased direct. The internet is still in it’s infant days and there is no reason why it should not be utilized to the max.

Bluehouse Offers Awesome Wholesale Skis for Four Years
Bluehouse is going into it’s 4th season during 2010-2011 ski season. It’s time to thank our customers who have helped us break into the ski industry and try something new- sell skis direct to skiers at huge discounts by removing all the middle-men in the industry. It’s not that we don’t like retailers, reps, etc… it’s just that we find their jobs slightly burdensome to the fact that we want to buy skis at great deals. There is no way to get a wholesale skis when it passes through so many hands. Everyone wants their cut and the result is that skis become too expensive for the average Joe looking to go out and shed some gnar on some new skis.
Here’s our offer: purchase skis at the price that retail shops are buying at. Due to the fact that our sales model works and everyone is buying Bluehouse skis this year, we’ve run into minor delays getting skis pressed to fill all the orders. That’s why we say order early before we’re sold out. So thanks return customers who have supported Bluehouse from year 1 and thanks to all of our new customers who found us online without hearing about us and have given us a chance. I’m certain you won’t be disappointed and I’m willing to bet that you’ll be back for more skis in years to come.
Pray for snow!
-Dan
